hattrick FAQ : Training

Info

Training speed depends on:
- Coach skill
- Number of assistant coaches/keeper coaches
- Training intensity (Most experienced managers recommend 100% intensity)
- Age of the player. (8% slower with each year)

More on training speed can be found on (http://wiki.hattrick.org/Training)

To make training profitable and efficient, you should buy good young trainees and train them for at least a season, but usually for 2-4 seasons. An efficient training plan requires using tactics that maximize the number of trained players.

Please note that we should now appreciate that it is best to try and train your players to keep, rather than sell to make cash like you are building cars on a conveyor belt. Historically, the best way to progress in the game was to train players and sell them, and then repeat. Many older users may still use this reasoning behind any advice they give. With the economic climate as it is at the moment, this is probably not the best way to pursue training.

It should also be noted that the training types below should not be changed on a week-by-week basis. Training something can take a few seasons (odd weeks training stamina excluded).

Red Carded Players and Injured Players
If a player receives a red card in a match he will still receive training for that match for the number of minutes he played before being sent off (though he still misses the next competitive match).

If a player is injured and substituted in a match, he will receive training for the number of minutes he played before being substituted and his replacement will receive training for the number of minutes left of that match up to a maximum of 90 minutes training over the week.

Choosing the training:

- Financial issues. The more trained positions, the harder it is to start the training properly.
- Existing young players. Do you have two 17-19 aged players with the same main skill, passable or better? Hooray, you already have two trainees!
- Existing old players. Any players that are too old to be classed as trainees with the skills you choose to train should either be sold or fired (dependant on skill level).
- Team goals. With some trainings (i.e. defense) it is a bit harder to win games. If you think you would have good chances for promotion and want to give it a try, pick a training that will help you attain that goal but remember that Hattrick is more of a marathon than a sprint.

Keeper training

Advantages:
- Only two trainees - you will have enough money for a solid coach and some older more experienced outfielders
- Tactical freedom, you can play ANY formations you wish
- Quick cash - you can get reasonable profits within a season which can assist new managers that make mistakes and get into financial trouble.
- Fair prices. Keeper skill can be determined quite well using external tools, so selling a high-solid keeper will usually bring the right price, close to low-excellent. This is not the case with other training types
- Quick pops (base speed 5 weeks)

Disadvantages:
- Lower long term profits compared to some training regimes.
- Slower team strength growth compared to some training regimes (increased defense ratings are not exactly THE thing for winning matches).

Defense training

Advantages:
- Not too expensive trainees
- Good long term profits (generally no big need for any secondary skills)
- Possibility to steal a few points from otherwise superior teams (may be easier to avoid relegation)
- Both Central Defenders and Wing Backs get 100% training so you can train 10 players a week.

Disadvantages:
- Buying 10 trainees of a reasonable standard can be expensive.
- Low tactical variability. For maximum profit, you're stuck with 532 and 541 line ups, or, if you are

Playmaking training

Advantages:
- Easier winning matches as your teams midfield improves
- Good profits.
- Good training speed (base 6.5 weeks)
- 3-5-2 is the main formation for Playmaking training and is probably considered the strongest formation in Hattrick for the majority of matches.

Disadvantages:
- One necessary secondary skill (stamina)
- Other secondary skills required to make the best profit from them (defending, passing, winger).
- Good trainees with secondary skills are expensive.
- Expensive to set up as you need 6 Inner Mid + 4 Winger trainees (Inner Mids get 100% Playmaking training and Wingers get 50%)

Scoring training

advantages:
- Only 6 trainees
- Good training speed (base 6.5 weeks)
- High Attack ratings

Disadvantages:
- Low tactical variability - either 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 are your only choices.
- Good trainees are not cheap as secondary skills are required (passing or winger skill) to make a decent profit on them when they are sold.
- Hard to win with a new team (you'll need strong midfield to profit from good attack ratings)

Winger training - crossing

Advantages:
- Quick training (base speed 4,5-5)
- Cheaper trainees

Disadvantages:
- 4 + 4 trainees (Wingers train at 100% and wingbacks at 50%)
- Lower tactical variability

Winger training - wing attacks

Advantages:
- Higher total effect of training than the previous type

Disadvantages:
- 10 trainees
- No tactical variability, you have to play 343 with only two inner midfielders
- Slower individual player growth

Passing training - short passes

Advantages:
- Will be more and more appreciated by the market
- Quick (base time 5.5-6 weeks)
- Good for offense

Disadvantages:
- Needs a lot of money to buy the required trainees (Passing alone is not a useful skill. You need high primary skills for players to make it worthwhile).
- 16 trainees which are both expensive to buy and will mean a high weekly wage bill.

Set Pieces

Advantages:
- Tactical freedom, whole squad trains

Disadvantages:
- Very expensive to set up. To be effective, you need 50 trainees that also have a reasonable level of main skill as Set Piece skill alone does not make them attractive players to buy.
- Form management - many of the trainees will be in bad form so you'll have to rely on a bit of luck to raise the form before selling them.
- The constant selling and buying of players to train will generally mean that your team has a low Team Spirit which makes it more difficult to win matches.

Stamina

You'll have too choose the stamina share (minimum share=5%). The older the player, the higher this % needs to be to regain a high stamina level.

Other training regimes.

There are a few other training regimes such as defensive positions and through passing but, due to the formations you need to play and the time taken for players to train a single level, few managers actually train them

Advice
Most experienced managers recommend that new teams train one of the primary skill training regimes. These are Playmaking, Goalkeeping, Scoring, Winger or Defending.
